چکیده

Removal of cesium from synthetic aqueous solution through adsorption on bentonite, under batch equilibrium experimental condition at different values of pH and four temperatures (303, 313, 323, 333 K) was investigated. For this propose the suitability of the Freundlich adsorption model for equilibrium data were investigated. The parameters in the adopted adsorption isotherm models were determined. The study of equilibrium isotherm shows that the best model for analysis of experimental data is freundlich model with correlation coefficient higher than 0.99 (both for temperature and pH). The results showed that increasing of pH and temperature increased the adsorption ability of bentonite. Optimum conditions for adsorption were determined as T=323 K, pH=9, bentonite dose=1.5 g and contact time of 24 hr. The negative value of the Gibbs free energy ∆G demonstrates the spontaneous nature of cesium adsorption onto bentonite.

Cadmium removal from wastewater using nano-clay/TiO2 composite: kinetics, equilibrium and thermodynamic study

In this research, commercial nano-clay (NC) was modified with TiO2 functional groups and characterized via XRD and FTIR methods. The modified nano-clay was applied as an adsorbent for the removal of cadmium from wastewater solutions. The effects of the operating parameters including initial pH, cadmium concentration and adsorbent concentration were analyzed by the Taguchi method. The...

Adsorption of Anionic Dyes on Poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) Modified Bentonite

A composite based on poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and sodium bentonite was prepared by a simple method. Structural characterizations of the bentonite and the composite were performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The TGA analysis showed a low loading of the polymer in the bentonite. XRD analysis confirmed a mod...

The effect of clay treatment on remediation of diethylketone contaminated wastewater: uptake, equilibrium and kinetic studies.

The ability of four different clays to adsorb diethylketone was investigated in batch experiments aiming to treat wastewater with low solvent concentrations. The adsorption performance in terms of uptake followed the sequence: vermiculite>sepiolite=kaolinite=bentonite, for all the adsorbent doses tested (from 0.1 to 1.5 g) in 150 mL of ketone solution (800 mg/L). The equilibrium data in the bat...

Removal of Copper(II) and Cadmium(II) ions from Aqueous Solutions Using Banana Peels and Bentonite Clay as Adsorbents

Adsorption removal of Cu(II) and Cd(II) from aqueous solution using low-cost banana peels (a food waste) and bentonite clay (natural resource), was investigated. The adsorption process was studied in a batch scale at mean operation parameter which were pH, adsorbent particle size, adsorbents dosages, and initial concentrations of metal ions. All experiments were conducted at room temperature. L...
